How is this different from cropping?
Cropping only trims edges. This removes a person from anywhere in the frame and rebuilds the background behind them.
Will it look natural?
For most backgrounds (walls, sky, grass, sand) the fill is seamless. Very complex backgrounds directly behind the person are the hardest cases.
